Minimalists’ Everyday Skincare
To preface, I’m all about investing in my face I wear all day everyday but not into it taking up my day or my budget. My routine is efficient and easy. All my products are natural if not 100% organic & relatively inexpensive. Lastly, I want all of it to fit into one standard-size dopp kit so I’m big on products with additional uses.
MORNING ROUTINE
I don’t wash my face when I wake up, unless I didn’t wash it the night before (read: too many glasses of wine). I do wash my sheets weekly always!
1. Mist with toner. Toner is super important if you’re using facial oil. Oil by itself doesn’t moisturize, it works when paired with a water-based toner. This rosewater toner is alcohol-free & doesn’t strip your skin of “good oils”. Other uses: set make-up & afternoon pick-me-up.
2. Apply instal-natural serum and wait for it to absorb. An annoying step, I hate waiting, so I brush my teeth while it absorbs. Ingredients to note: Hyaluronic acid, maintains moisture in your skin. Vitamin C, stimulates collagen production & antioxidant protection against sun damage. Glycolic acid, stimulates collagen and elastin production.
3. Moisturize. I use my propolis moisturizer. Bee propolis is antiviral, antibacterial, anti-fungal, anti-inflammatory, and an antioxidant. (More on propolis.) I’ve forced it upon people for years.
4. Sunscreen! If there is one product you use daily, IT’S THIS! I can layer makeup over it & it LASTS 8 HOURS
5. My FAVORITE for last, jade roller my face to seal in the products. It de-puffs your face, tightens your pores, contours your cheeks/jawline & increases lymphatic drainage. Read my post on jade rolling for instructions.
EVENING ROUTINE
1. Remove my makeup if I put any on that day. I use just regular old jojoba oil and cotton pad. It’s organic & works like a charm. Other uses: body lotion, hair mask, a couple drops as a de-frizzer. Sometimes instead of oil, I use water & this fancy washcloth. They both work well.
2. Exfoliate. Honestly, I do this in the shower and use this product on my butt, back, bikini line & decollete. (butt-ne anyone?) This is another product I’ve been using for years. It works like no other!
3. Mist with toner, apply the instal-natural serum & generously apply the face oil.
4. Gua sha time! (Blog post coming on instructions.) Massaging the tension and toxins out of your face, zens me! I do mine in bed.
** My husband even knows this part of my routine and asks me every night if he’s getting some gua sha too. Such a diva!
Bonus: For any irritation, scar, or healing pimple, I spot treat it with Vitamin E skin oil. With it’s antioxidant power, it helps get your skin back to smoothville.
