Jade Rolling Explained

Jade Rolling Explained

Why is she rolling that random thing across her face every morning?

The method is called jade rolling, originating from Chinese medicine.  The jade roller is a tiny rolling pin made from jade stone used to sweep across the face in certain motions to stimulate circulation and lymphatic drainage.  If you believe in metaphysical crystals, the jade stone represents healing and protection. It’s said to bring you good luck and wisdom.

I’ll admit I was a bit skeptical when “Santa” left me a jade roller in my stocking last Christmas but figured I didn’t have much to lose.

Benefits of Jade Rolling I’ve found are:

Reduces puffiness. Immediately, the bad boy helped me depuff.  Ever gone out drinking only to wake up looking like you gained five pounds in your face?  Five minutes after rolling, your face will look thin again.   It helps debloat by increasing blood circulation.  Blood circulation brings oxygen and nutrients to your skin while removing toxins.

Relieves  my tension headaches.  I get tension headaches easily.  Tension headaches are just that tension in my face muscles (mainly forehead & temple area).  When you have a knot in your back, you get a back massage.  Same concept.  ITS. A. LIFESAVER.  You truly feel it melting away as you roll your face.  I noticed that when I do it in the morning, it’s preventative to getting one during the day.  Like most health things, consistency helps.

Glowing skin.  Particularly,  improved elasticity of the skin, tightened pores, stimulating collagen production and reduced wrinkles.  You might be thinking what does stimulating your lymphatic drainage really do for you.  Turns out, a ton!  So here I am rolling my face knowing I’m relieving tension and debloating, when my skin starts taking on a glow I’ve never seen before. Lymphatic drainage removes the toxins which are being pushed out as circulation is delivering oxygen and nutrients.  The only thing I’ve changed in my skincare routine this year is adding facial massages and my skin looks better than it has in years.  My check bones look great.  My face has a contour I’ve never experienced (and I’m the same weight I was this time last year.)  The resting wrinkles on my forehead that I’ve tried to disappear with botox are gone and not in the I don’t move my face anymore way.  My face is just plump.  Lastly, I felt like I was walking around with years of built-up knots in my facial muscles and fascia and unaware of this weight until it slowly disappeared this spring.  It’s truly refreshing.  Imagine if you’re left forehead muscles are tighter than your right.  No wonder you’re left eyebrow always seemed a bit higher than your right.  Roll that shit out. You’ll feel better.

How to use it:

Place your serum and moisturizer on first. Rolling over them helps your skin absorb them better. I prefer oil.

You always start at your neck and roll up.  You always roll up to help lift your face.  The only times you roll down are at the end around the edge of your face to flush the toxins out.

Each stroke should be repeated 3 - 10 times.  Honestly, I do three.  I’m into this but I’m also into having a life.

Do one side and then the other side.

From there begin one side of the face working from bottom to top and from center to outer edges.

From there you repeat the opposite side.

Finally run the roller down the edge of your face and along your neck to your shoulders.

Clean it (soap & water) and store in freezer, you want it to be COLD for depuffing.
